Sometime after, Cay and the Jedi returned to Ossus. However, when it was learned that Ossus was in the path of a shockwave created by the explosion of ten stars caused by Krath member, Aleema, Cay and the Jedi were start an evacuation and try to save as much Jedi history from the library as possible. During the evacuation, Ulic joined them, but not to return to them. As Cay went to greet him, Ulic met Cay with hostility telling him to leave him alone and actually shot down his starship.

On the surface, Cay was forced to engage Ulic in lightsaber combat in order to stop him. However, the anger in Ulic's heart was too much for Cay's love for his brother to overcome. Cay was hit several times, each of them fatally wounding him. As Cay lay dying, Ulic finally realized he had chosen the wrong path, but it was too late. Cay Qel-Droma, Jedi Knight, was struck down, and became one with the Force.
